I love Thornton’s acting style, he was excellent in the first “Bad Santa” and with his charismatic and crude performance, the result was a hilariously realistic look at the holiday season, and a film that changed the conception of the traditional Christmas movie. This trailer shows Willie (Thornton) is back to his usual holiday routine with some familiar faces returning along with him in Tony Cox and a grown up Brett Kelly.
This could be a positive thing given I enjoyed the chemistry between them in the original. There was not much to gleam from this story in regards to a solid story plot-line. There was however all the dry, rude and amusing humor that made the first film such a guilty pleasure to me.
Time will tell if the humor will stand up, or if it will be simply be more of the same from the first film, simply trying to cash in on some holiday box-office money. Thornton does shine in this role to me and there is potential for some great comedy here, so it will be interesting to see how this one pans out. If this film relies on simple vulgar and shock-value humor, this sequel will stall out very quickly, but if there is a fun enough story to wrap around Thornton’s character for a second time, this film has potential to be a holiday success.
