“Sully” (IMAX Trailer) | Trailer Thoughts

Sully (2016) 1The new IMAX trailer for “Sully” gives viewers additional footage of the upcoming film, as well as a behind-the-scenes peek, with commentary from director Clint Eastwood as well as Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger himself. With Eastwood directing and Tom Hanks in the lead the smart money is this film will be a box-office success, and possibly contend for some Academy Awards this year.

From what the trailers have shown this will be a thorough examination of the man who saved a plane full of lives, as well as the story that went on outside the media spotlight. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this film and will expect another great performance from Hanks.

My main concern in this movie will surprisingly be Eastwood’s directorial vision. He is skilled behind the camera without question, but in some of his films he as over embellished different aspects to convey unmentioned messages in his movies. For example the over-the-top patriotism in “American Sniper” that took a great film and clouded it with murmurs of propaganda.

I don’t expect it to be an issue and predict the story of the real-life hero will be told with the spotlight remaining solely on that. The rest of the cast look great as well and with their performances there is potential for some intriguing sub-plots, and realistic personas of these real people.

The special-effects were also on display in this trailer and I will certainly look to see this movie in IMAX. CGI in films these days can certainly create some over-the-top sequences that have viewers hanging on the edge of their seats. It is however, often shown that at times films can over rely of CGI as opposed to practical effects. But in this trailer it looks like the technology of today will be able to give audiences a never before seen look at the terrifying ordeal that took place on the Hudson.
