The first trailer for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is finally here and after watching, it did not disappoint. I loved it, I loved the tone, the loved the look of the character, and even more so, I loved Tom Holland in this role. I enjoyed Tobey Maguire in the first couple “Spider-Man” films, and Garfield had his moments, but I think Holland has the chance to capture this role for many years to come.
This trailer delivers a lot of comical dialogue that seems perfect for Hollands personality, and it should also fit excellently with the addition of Downey Jr into this film. I think these two are going to have a strong, likable chemistry, and I think watching the character of Peter Parker react to the high-tech equipment Stark will supply him, will deliver some amusing moments on its own.
I also really enjoyed the look this trailer showed of the high-school life of Peter Parker. This was an aspect that was not very well written into the “Amazing Spider-Man” films and hindered the overall entertainment of those films, along with many other aspects. But I this this film could give the first real peek at the character’s school life much like I remember from the comics, and I’m looking forward to it.
The action also looks awesome, the trailer gave us some glimpses of large-scale action set-pieces as well as some street level justice. One thing I think this trailer shows is something that could lead to awesome results which is Stark’s mentor-ship of Peter Parker. This could allow him to grow into the character in an intriguing way. Too often in these comic book movies, heroes get their powers, then are right off into the action without issue, and this movie gives some hints of breaking that mold.
We also got a small taste of Michael Keaton as the Vulture and I can’t wait to see what he can do in this role. I always have high hopes for the villains in the MCU films, and this one could finally deliver, with Keaton bringing an aged enemy to fight a much younger Spider-man. Something that could bring the inclusion of Iron Man into the mix, which this trailer also gives a glimpse of. Overall this was a great trailer and there is a lot to look forward to with this film, and I’m excited to see this direction they are taking with the character.
